Who is Uroš Kraševac?
I am Uroš from the Kraševac family, which is famous for its architects. Probably that’s why I decided at the age of six to become a sailor. My racing career has yielded some solid results in the Optimist and Laser 4.7 classes and ranking in the top ten at the European Laser Radial Junior Championships and the Laser Standard World Junior Championships.
I am a graduate of kinesiology at the Faculty of Sports in Ljubljana and when it comes to sports, my motto is: “Try everything”. Before the Mini Transat project I was employed at the Sailing Association of Slovenia as a coach of the youth national team in the Laser Standard class, and I am also a teacher of skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. I like to deal with things that could be called “bonkers”.
This also includes offshore sailing or competitive long-distance sailing. So as part of the preparation for the big story – the Mini Transat regatta – I broke the Guinness record in the distance sailed for two on a dinghy boat. My sister Maruša, a former racing sailor, and I sailed more than 335 nautical miles (approximately from Izola to Dubrovnik) with a cabin without a cabin, thus entering the Guinness Book of Records.
My biggest goal is to cross the Atlantic Ocean at the MINI TRANSAT solo regatta, for which I will be qualifying in 2022. It is a prestigious sailing event where selected sailors with only a 6.5 m long mini 650 boat cross the Atlantic for over 4,000 nautical miles of attractive and adventurous ordeal without any contact with the world, even without weather support via satellites.
What is MINI TRANSAT?
The MINI TRANSAT regatta takes place every two years and represents an exceptional solo sailing challenge.
7500 kilometrs of the ocean
Sailors travel 7,500 kilometers or. over 4,000 nautical miles of ocean.
No contact with the world
Any contact with the outside world is not allowed, sailors cannot even count on weather support via satellites.
No room for error
Race is sailed with the smallest regatta ocean sailboat of the mini 650 class, only 6.5 m long.
